LG Twins captain Oh Ji-hwan came back from the dead.
LG won Game 3 of the Korean Series against the KT Wiz of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO Postseason 8-7 on Tuesday at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea. With the win, LG took a 2-1 series lead. There have been a total of 17 times when a best-of-three series has been decided with the series tied at 1-1, and the winning team has gone on to win the Korean Series 15 times. LG has an 88% chance of taking the series.
The game was a back-and-forth affair. LG had the last laugh.
It was LG who struck first. In the top of the third inning, Austin hit a three-run home run with runners on second and third. He pulled a 147-kilometer fastball from KT starter Wes Benjamin over the left-field fence for a home run. It was the first home run of the Korean Series.
KT answered right back. In the bottom of the third inning, after a walk and a single by Kim Sang-soo, Hwang Jae-gyun hit a two-run double with runners on first and second.
They turned the game around in the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fifth, with LG leading 3-1, Jung Woo-young took the mound. After getting the first batter, Hwang Jae-gyun, to ground out to the second baseman, he gave up a single to right to Park Byung-ho. With one out, Jang Sung-woo hit a fastball that rolled in front of the shortstop. It was a double play. 무지개토토
However, shortstop Oh Ji-hwan made a dashing error. Park Byung-ho raced to third base, where a throwing error by the left fielder allowed Jang Jang-woo to advance to second base. With runners on first and second and one out, LG walked Jung Woo-young and brought up Ham Deok-joo. KT then sent left-hander Kim Min-hyuk to pinch-hit for Moon Sang-chul. Kim Min-hyuk then hit a single to right-center field to cut the deficit to one run. With runners on first and third, Alford hit a double off the fence to tie the game at 3-3. Here, LG made another mound change. They brought up Baek Seung-hyun. KT brought in Oh Yoon-seok to pinch-hit for Lee Ho-yeon, and Lee’s grounder to third was thrown home by Moon Bo-kyung, the third baseman, to strand the runner at third. But that wasn’t the end of it. With runners on first and second, Choi Sung-ho singled up the middle to make it 4-3. An error by Oh Ji-hwan led to the game-winning run.
LG tied the game at 5-4 in the sixth with a two-run double by Park Dong-won. It was a home run that took some of the sting out of the game.
However, LG’s joy was short-lived. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Park gave up a three-run shot to Byung-ho Park.
Here, it was Oh Ji-hwan who came through. The captain was the captain. He made up for his mistake perfectly and led his team to victory. In the top of the ninth inning, with runners on first and second, Oh lined a 143-kilometer per hour fastball from KT closer Kim Jae-yoon over the right field fence. It was his second straight game with a solo home run, following his solo shot in Game 2 on Aug. 8.
